It was the original surf song to be No. 1

The earliest hit of a surf song was "Surf City," by Jan and Dean. The song is about a fictional surf community where two girls are for every one boy. The song was written by Brian Wilson and Jan Berry and became the first surf song to reach the top of the charts. The Woodies used the song as the soundtrack to The Woodies Cars, their first movie.

It was costly

The cars made before the woodie age was over were smaller in number, but had a certain elegance. These cars were built using traditional automobile production methods, like wiring and installing seats. They were difficult to construct and not mass-produced. Only a handful of states had woodies, including Texas and parts in southern Europe. They gained popularity in the United States however, as they were largely unemployed.

It was unsafe

Woodies were a popular car in America during the 1930s. However, their design was not without its problems. Their large size and wood bodywork meant they needed constant maintenance, and the wood swelled and cracked when exposed to the elements. In addition, the cars' wooden doors weren't strong enough to protect their occupants against the harsh climate. Although the style didn't die, eventually the car industry removed wood from production.

It was a parody of stationwagons

A wood-bodied automobile can be described as a parody of a wagon. Wooden bodywork was often painted or stained to look like fine wood furniture. Interior door panels, dashboards and the rear tailgate continued the wood theme. In the 1940s, woodies were also popularized in American movies. Today, woodies can be found on American car lots. They were not the only types of wood-bodied automobiles created during this time.

After the surfers had finished, it was restored.

A working group of stakeholders devised a plan in 2010 to restore Surfers’ Point. Faced with many competing interest, the group had a difficult time negotiating funding. The idea to create a public space where all could enjoy the seashore and beach was supported by the community. With the support of grants, the project was completed in 2011. Today, it is a popular destination for both surfers and tourists alike.

What is the job description for a mechanic in a car?

Three main areas of employment are available for car mechanics:

  • Automotive repair shops
  • Dealerships
  • Independent garages

Automotive repair shops

This is the place most people begin to consider becoming mechanics. It's actually the easiest way to start. Either work for someone else's shop or you can start your own.

If you choose to work at a store, you need to join a union. Once accepted into the union you will be trained by the union.

You'll be ready for work once you have completed the training.

If you plan to open your own garage you will need to register with government. You'll need to meet certain standards after you register.

After you register, you will be granted a license for your garage to operate.

Your license allows for minor repairs and spare parts sales. You can't fix major engine problems with your license.

Customers will expect you to not only sell spare parts but also provide advice and guidance.

Dealership jobs

Most dealerships employ mechanics who specialize in one area of the car. For example, they might only deal with brakes or only replace tires.

Some dealers also have general mechanics that can handle all aspects.

These positions may require applicants to complete specific training before being allowed on the job. This means employers can choose which candidates are best suited for their role.

Some dealerships recruit students right out of school. These graduates already know the basics of mechanical engineering and therefore have no problem learning about cars.

Independent garages

Independent garages do not belong to any dealership. They tend to be focused on high-quality service.

Because independent garages aren't affiliated with any company, they can afford to pay higher wages. This means that these jobs are usually more lucrative than those at dealerships.

However, independent garages may not be better places to work. Many owners prefer to run their businesses themselves rather than delegate responsibility to employees.

You may find yourself working for long hours and not having control over the day.

It is also possible to expect lower wages than you would if working at a dealer.

It's possible to switch between jobs. It is possible to switch between different types of jobs if your current employer would prefer you to work at a dealer.

If you prefer to work in an independent garage, you might consider applying directly to its owner.

The bad news? Finding a new position isn't always easy. Many other factors can also influence the amount you earn.

Consider, for example, what type of vehicle you are repairing and whether additional labor charges will apply.

How To

How to become an automotive technician

A technician who works on vehicles is an automotive technician. He/she is employed at automobile dealerships, garages, service centres, and auto shops. Customers can rely on him/her to fix their cars, trucks and motorcycles. An automotive technician must be capable of diagnosing problems and making repairs safely, accurately and efficiently.

To become an automotive technician, a person must first earn an associate's degree from a vocational college. After completing this program, he/she will need to pass the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence's (ASE) certification exam. ASE stands for American Society of Mechanical Engineers. There are two parts to the ASE certification exam. The first section tests the ability to use mechanical knowledge. The second section tests the ability to apply practical skills. You must attend one of the authorized testing sites to take the test. These locations are available online or through your local automotive dealer.

Before becoming an automotive technician, a candidate must pass the test. This process can vary depending on where the applicant lives. Some states require applicants to take a training course while others allow them the freedom to study on their own. Some states permit technicians to work immediately after they are granted their license. Others require them to wait at least six consecutive months before they can be licensed.

A person must apply to an auto dealership in order to get started as an automobile technician. Most employees who are hired start as apprentices. Apprenticeship programs typically last three to four years. During this time, a student learns how to perform basic repairs, such as changing oil, adjusting brakes, replacing tires, cleaning spark plugs, inspecting engine compartments, and performing routine maintenance. Some students are taught how to repair engines and replace transmission fluids. Many schools offer classes during normal business hours. However, there are some schools that offer evening classes for those who need them.

After completing an apprenticeship, a student becomes a journeyman. Journeymen can spend up to five years learning how major systems work, including transmissions, differentials. They also learn how to adjust steering gear and suspensions. You will also learn how to repair complicated electrical components, as well as how to remanufacture engines and rebuild transmissions. Many employers prefer to hire Journeymen because they understand the job well.

After passing the exams, candidates may be eligible to open their own shop if they pass all requirements. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nearly 1.7 million automotive mechanic jobs were available in 2010. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicted that this number would rise by 18% from 2009 to 2020. If a candidate decides to open his/her own shop, he/she should prepare to invest many thousands of dollars in equipment and supplies.

Automotive technicians' salaries depend on many factors such as the employer, whereabouts, education level and experience. An average salary for a jobless individual is $20,000 per annum. A person with only a high-school diploma could make around $21,000 annually. An associate's degree earns approximately $24,000 annually. Technicians with bachelor's degrees earn approximately $27,000 per year. And those with master's degrees made around $32,000 per year. Salary increases are common, so a professional who earns less than $30,000 now could reasonably expect to earn $40,000 or more in just a few years.
